Access to Care Community Coalition

1) What is PowerTools?

PowerTools is the Software Based Mentoring System being created by the Medical Care Access Coalition of Marquette, Michigan. The Power Tools system will take a newly established Volunteer Physician Program from development to direct services as efficiently and quickly as possible. As a package, Power Tools provides reproducible examples of needed resources, on-site mentoring, practical advice, technical assistance, and more.

2) How does the PowerTools training and software work?

PowerTools is an HTML based (web based) computer program coupled with an on-site training system. Together, the software and training system details the establishment and administration of a volunteer physician program. From articles on the theory behind why an access program is needed, to Word and Adobe files of necessary policies and procedures, organizations utilizing PowerTools will save development time, and personnel costs, while being mentored by a successful peer in the Volunteer Medical Program community, the Medical Care Access Coalition.

PowerTools software and training breaks Volunteer Physician Programs into 12 major areas: 1) Pharmacy, 2) Enrollment, 3) Physician and Hospital Issues, 4) Clinic, 5) Administrative, 6) Finances, 7) Marketing, 8) Dental, 9) Legal/ Setup issues, 10) Staffing, 11) Outreach/Networking, and 12) Program Evaluation.

Resources supplied in the PowerTools software provide examples of items such as: pharmacy log out sheets, enrollment verification cards, program marketing materials, confidentiality guidelines, etc. Either by adopting the given resource or by modifying it to better fit the specific application in your community, your Volunteer Physician Program will have more information to aid in development and administration.
